The services provided
by Peabody Animal Control include handling stray dogs, neighborhood nuisance
problems, rabies concerns, and injured animals. The policy of the Animal Control
Department is to respond to calls for injured animals regardless of the species.
Injured animals are brought to the closest veterinarian to handle the call
if there is no owner present. A stray animal is held at the holding facility
for 10 days. After 10 days, if the owner has not come forward the animal will
be put up for adoption.
Laws and Fines:
All dogs must be restrained on a leash of not more than 6 feet There is a
civil penalty of $25.00 for the first offense, $50.00 for the second offense,
and $50.00 for each offense after the first if within a year of the last fine
issued. The Barking Dog Law and the Pooper Scooper Law also have a fine schedule
the same as the leash law offense. There is also a $50.00 fine for not vaccinating
your pet against rabies.
Dog Licensing:
All dogs must be licensed within six months of age and yearly thereafter through
the City Clerks Office.

female / male - $20.00
Important Information
If your pet is lost, it is recommended that you provide a description to your
local Animal Control Officer, City Facilities, and local veterinarians as
well as those in surrounding communities.
Rabies concerns may also be referred to the Board of Health.
During off hours, nights, and weekends please contact the Peabody Police Department
or the Department of Public Works for deceased animals.
